This study applies the use of a comparative quantitative approach to be able to compare the learning achievement of students who participate in extracurricular sports with students who do not participate in extracurricular activities. Respondents were divided into two groups based on their level of participation in the activity. Learning achievement data can be obtained from the even semester report card scores for the 2024/2025 Academic Year, while information about participation in extracurriculars is collected through a structured questionnaire. Furthermore, where the difference in learning outcomes between the two groups was analyzed using an independent t-test. This research is motivated by the difference in the way students use their time at school. Some students choose to be active by participating in sports activities outside of class hours while other students focus more on academic activities in the classroom. This condition is the basis for examining whether participation in sports extracurriculars has a relationship with the academic achievement of students at SMAN 2 Ponorogo considering that all students get the same opportunity to be able to participate in sports activities without ignoring their learning responsibilities. The results showed that students involved in sports activities tended to have better and more stable academic grades compared to students who did not participate in extracurricular activities. Sports activities help them develop discipline, time management skills, and a higher level of focus on learning. Regular physical activity also positively impacts motivation and concentration, which ultimately reflects in improved academic achievement. Overall, this research confirms that sports are not a barrier to academic achievement, but rather a catalyst that strengthens the balance between physical fitness and academic success. Participation in extracurricular sports helps students develop into healthy, high-achieving individuals with strong character in the school environment.
